"The road to success is not crowded. Because while most are looking for ways to take, the truly successful people are finding ways to give.” -Unknown
There are numerous “business” measures that corroborate Bostonian Group as a very successful company, but there are other measures of our success that we feel are just as important. Since the infancy of the company, the belief in “giving back” has always been a core value. Our earliest outreach started with supporting children in the community through the Catholic Charities organizations. As our client base expanded, we too expanded our reach by giving to many of our clients’ causes, supporting our non-for-profit clients, and encouraging our employees’ charitable interests.
The Bostonian Group Charitable Foundation was formed in 2005 as a non-for-profit vehicle through which our charitable work is now being organized. In addition to our clients’ requests which come at anytime throughout the year, our employees focus on one particular charitable cause each month, e.g. fundraising for Rally Against Cancer, the Sock Drive for Boston Health Care for the Homeless’, building a home for Habitat for Humanity or serving lunch at a local soup kitchen. While our monthly outreach sometimes varies, our major fundraiser continues to be our annual charitable golf tournament held each year in June, where clients, vendors and friends help us raise substantial dollars. Gaining popularity over the past few years, we’ve continually reached the $100K mark in donations.
As a measurement of our philanthropic giving, we surpassed our $1 Million milestone for charitable giving in 2010- a statistic that we’re all very proud of. We are also very proud of other statistics that we achieve such as striving for, and typically attaining 100% participation from our employees in our charitable endeavors. More than half of our employees have automatic payroll deductions taken and are used towards a weekly drawing that determines a “winner” who is able to designate a charity of choice to receive $100 donation. Bostonian Group also encourages charitable giving with its company policies e.g. giving every employee a paid day off to volunteer as well as providing matching funds for employees’ personal giving.
Lastly, our employees are our business, and our culture is one of being “givers,” not “takers.” Our charitable endeavors are only one example of this, and we also think it’s a reason why we’ve been so successful over the years.
