Plan Design Strategies and Benchmarking

The right plan is essential to a successful retirement program. Bostonian Group works with you to design a plan to meet the unique needs of your organization and your employees. We look at how much employees should be saving, how their assets should be invested, and how much income will be needed during retirement.

We benchmark every retirement plan to ensure it is up to market standards and is part of an attractive benefits package that will help you recruit and retain top talent. We encourage the use of plan features that give you and your employees the greatest opportunity for success, such as automatic enrollment and built-in contribution increases.

Bostonian Group advocates proper diversification by selecting investment options with different strategies and varying degrees of expected risk and return. We recommend each sponsor designate a Qualified Default Investment Alternatives (QDIA) that allocates assets based upon risk and/or age.

Our ultimate goal is to help your employees have adequate savings for retirement. In addition, we feel it is critical to offer participants the opportunity to use all or a portion of their savings to generate a guaranteed stream of income for life.

Investment Line-up Selection, Monitoring and Recommendations
Selecting and monitoring the plan's investment line-up requires a thoughtful process and timely access to fund performance and market data. It starts with the development of a sound Investment Policy Statement (IPS), and involves a regular review and assessment of fund investment results. At Bostonian Group, we have developed a proprietary investment reporting system that integrates each client's investment policy so you receive timely reports customized to your plan's investments.

Service Provider Oversight and Management
Critical components to managing a successful retirement program include selecting the right service provider(s) and determining the appropriate service model and team. Negotiating fees and monitoring service deliverables are equally important. In the current litigious environment, fee disclosure to participants will become a key area of regulatory scrutiny. At Bostonian Group, we work with the top rated service providers and maintain a fee disclosure template to help you execute a cost-effective plan.

Employee Education and Investment Guidance
Developing goals, objectives and a corresponding employee education action plan with detailed strategy and tactical steps can be an arduous task. Compliance with IRC Section 404(c) requires that regular information be provided to plan participants, but exactly what and how often is not always clear. At Bostonian Group, we have a dedicated employee education resource that works with our clients to develop strategy, while working with service providers to implement. From written materials to group meetings to individual participant consultants, we seek to engage all employees to ensure maximum plan utilization and secure financial futures.

Comprehensive ERISA Fiduciary Oversight
Complex and ever-changing regulations can significantly impact your retirement plan. Bostonian Group implements a consistent and thorough review process to ensure our plan sponsors meet their fiduciary responsibilities and comply with ERISA 404(c) and other regulations. We continually monitor and evaluate your investment options to ensure you are receiving the maximum value.

Our seasoned consulting team keeps you informed about any legislative and regulatory changes that could affect your plan and keeps you up-to-date on:
  • Regulatory updates and compliance deadlines
  • Industry trends and best practices
